Winter in the West

(Steve Key)
February 6, 2012
wrote two in one day! This was the second.
Winter in the West

I wore my T-shirt in the garden
And I drank some fine red wine
Felt some sunburn on my arms
It was sunny and 69.

And it’s early February
I don’t even need a vest
Still surprised when it’s not freezing
And it’s Winter in the West

I remember February
Some years back in the East
Two feet of snow came down
And I was stuck in New Jersey

But it was magic in Manhattan
With snow drifts to my chest
Even memories are sunny
Now that it’s Winter in the West

Sometimes I miss the snow
And I do miss pizza slices
I’ve got sunsets and warm winds
At night sometimes it ices

And it’s early February
I truly do feel blessed
That I’m shipwrecked on the coast
And it’s Winter in the West
