New York-based folk-rock band The Voyces play the featured set on our weekly showcase. Led by singer-songwriter Brian Wurschum and vocalist Jude Kastle, The Voyces received international exposure when one of their songs, “Relate To Me,” was included in Jack Johnson’s “Thicker Than Water” film and soundtrack. Two of the band's songs also found their way into the feature film, "National Lampoon’s Adam & Eve" and the television show, "Monarch Cove."

Steve hosts Mario Matteoli Concert
8:30pm
San Luis Obispo
CA
Austin-based singer-songwriter Mario Matteoli will be in concert at The Clubhouse in San Luis Obispo on Sat. May 31. Cover charge is $10 for the 8:30pm show. www.mariomatteoli.com
Mario visited our Tuesday showcase last fall and blew everyone away, so I'm very happy to have him back, playing two full sets of his compelling original songs.
Mario Matteoli was born and raised in Eureka, California. He started playing guitar at age 14, listening to the likes of Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, and Clarence White. After playing in various bluegrass and rock and roll bands and a brief stint at the local university, Matteoli packed his bags with buddies Brian Salvi and Darren Hoff and moved to Austin to form the premier touring act, The Weary Boys. For the last six years his primary focus has been writing songs and playing guitar with the band, occasionally playing the odd solo performance. In November of 2005, Matteoli and friends Cary Ozanian, Mark Ambrose, and Matt Hubbard began work on his first self-released solo album, Hard Luck Hittin'. Hard Luck was released in June 2006 and has already received some great reviews, such as this one from the Austin American-Statesman:
"It's a wonderfully reflective and — bonus! — richly melodic album that finds a 25-year-old man dealin' with feelings in a way that would make his songwriting idols Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt proud."
